The Journey
1
The Entry and First Contact
Whether at the border or inside the country, your request begins with an eligibility interview with a border officer or IRCC. This is the step where it is determined if you can legally apply for asylum in Canada.
The asylum application process in Canada is rigorous and follows specific steps before the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB).
2
Basis of Claim Form (BOC)
This is a form that serves as a central document where you lay out the facts. Once submitted, your file is forwarded to the Refugee Protection Division (RPD). Every detail matters, as this text will serve as the basis for your hearing.
3
Case Preparation
During this phase, you must gather your evidence and adhere to the document production deadlines set by the IRB. Document accuracy is crucial to support your arguments.
4
Waiting and Summons
You will receive a 'Notice of Hearing' indicating the date, time, and mode (in person or virtual) of your hearing. This is the final signal of the beginning of the decisive stage.
